Being an early adopter is very much within Jay’s character. He was an early investor in the private equity industry. Jay helped form, oversee and manage the growth of Pantheon, one of the first global private equity fund-of-funds, which grew to over $23 billion of assets under management (now part of the Affiliated Managers Group). Jay was an early employee at Pantheon, starting in their London office in 1985 and then co-founded the US office in 1987. In this capacity, he helped supervise the firm’s rapid expansion and was instrumental in forming and managing several very successful early pioneering strategies and funds, including Pantheon Global Secondary Fund. He also was responsible for all marketing and client service functions in North America. Jay was a long-standing member of Pantheon’s Management Committee who had ultimate responsibility for the firm. Jay was an integral member of the team that grew Pantheon into a category leader. Prior to joining Pantheon, Jay was a commercial banker at The Northern Trust in their agriculture lending division.
