Michele Grossman

Sustainability Director

Michele is Equilibrium’s Sustainability Director. She is responsible for advancing the Company’s sustainability goals aligned with its mission and leading reporting priorities that measure progress – in portfolio investments, aggregate vehicles, and the corporation as a whole. Her role ensures alignment with business units and operating partners, as well as compliance with evolving global ESG-related regulations. Michele also leads the firm’s sustainability committee, prepares Benefit Company reports and maintains its Certified Benefit Company ratings (currently Best for the World).

She joined Equilibrium with the belief that in this crucial decade for limiting climate change, every action should aim to have a positive social and environmental impact.

Prior to joining Equilibrium, Michele spent the last two decades working to make a quantifiable impact on climate change. At the beginning of her career as an environmental scientist and consultant at Tetra Tech EMI, she helped create a new Climate Change program, managing over 40 greenhouse gas verification and inventory development projects for multiple sectors. That work led to building out a consulting arm at WM, working internally and with customers to identify and meet sustainability goals. As Director of Sustainability at WM, Michele helped create and execute a clear framework of ambitions, strategies, goals and metrics to help leaders make sense of sustainability and ESG changes and keep ahead of the pace of change. She created WM’s first ESG Resource Hub, Data Center, and SASB and TCFD reporting frameworks, and developed a science-based target aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Michele holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Concordia University in Montreal and a B.A. in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh.  She earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from Purdue University, and she’s a LEED Accredited Professional. Michele serves on the Board of the Council for Responsible Sport.

Generally a curious person, Michele has traveled to 18 countries and throughout the U.S. and Canada. She enjoys walking, hiking, roller skating, reading with her cats, having meals with friends, and paddle boarding with her husband wherever there’s water.
